Using Parallels Desktop

I tried the feature where I can run my Boot Camp Windows within Parallels (without importing it to Parallels). When using Windows within Parallels, Windows reports that it is not activated. Microsoft says that I can use a product key for only one device for Windows 10, and that a VM and Boot Camp count as two devices. We already know Windows 10 on ARM runs well on the Apple M1, but that is using a hacked virtual machine. Recently however Windows emulation company Parallels have started beta testing Parallels Desktop for Mac with Apple M1 chip. The currently available versions of Parallels Desktop for Mac cannot run virtual machines on Mac with the M1 chip. Parallels runs Windows within macOS, using what's called a Virtual Machine. This allows you to quickly switch between the Mac and Windows desktops. You can even combine the two desktops, if you want, and run Windows software right on your Mac desktop from your Mac's dock. File Transfer - You can easily transfer files between Parallels virtualized desktops and the host desktop either through Copy and Paste functionality, or Drag and Drop. You can also configure shared folders. For the completely uninitiated, Parallels has been putting Windows on Macs since 2006. It runs Microsoft's OS in a virtual environment, so it's essentially one huge application—as soon as you shut.

Here are a few important tips and best practices for using Articulate software on a Mac with Parallels.

Disable the Shared Profile

Disable the shared profile in Parallels, so all the default Windows folders reside in the Windows environment, not the native Mac environment. For more information on this topic, see this Parallels article.

After disabling the shared profile, uninstall and reinstall your Articulate software. (This step is only necessary if shared profiles were previously enabled.)

Work Exclusively in the Windows Environment

Save and publish Articulate projects in the Windows environment, not the Mac. For example: C:UsersAdministratorDocuments

Don't work from a network drive or an external USB drive. Doing so can result in file corruption or loss of resources due to latency.

Audio, video, and image resources must be located in the Windows environment, not the Mac. Copy and paste files you need for Articulate projects to the Windows environment prior to inserting them into your content. Sss telephone number.

When working with Microsoft Office (e.g., when importing PowerPoint slides into Storyline), Office apps must be installed in your Windows environment.

Parallels Desktop 13

In Parallels, set links to always open in Windows (the default setting). Articulate 360 requires access to a browser in the virtual environment for authentication.

Disable Retina Resolution for Windows

If you're using a Mac with a Retina display, you may find that user interface elements in Articulate apps are small and difficult to read. To correct it, disable Retina resolution for your Windows virtual machine.

Turn Coherence Mode Off

We don't recommend using Coherence mode. It can cause graphical anomalies or even make Windows apps freeze up. See this Parallels article for instructions.
